Please keep an eye on your nice Nikon and store it safely (at least when driving) ;-) I have heard of people falling into the water together with a Canon camera and tripod, and I don't want to hear a similar Nikon story.... Has all your photo equipment survived the Asian climate so far?

We will take care of it :-) But the climate was harsh to the camera. The sand of the desert in Mongolia, the dust of Mongolia "roads" and Nepali trek put it hard on the camera. I wish Nikon would have done some effort to add rubber here and there. We had more than once dust on the CCD (really difficult to get rid of those!!) which you can "admire" on some of the uploaded pictures of Nepal! Lens and barrel were some times making eerie noise due to dust or sands. Also the circular polarising filter has lost much of its smoothness when we turn it... We have to constantly clean it. And body and lens will get a full factory clean up when we are back. Jean-Christophe PS: though we do not regret our choice for the camera and would still choose that one. We have to say that cameras like the K10 from Pentax which are weather and dust proof are much worthier for people like us than I would have thought!

The Pentax K10D has also received an EISA award for European camera of the year 2007/2008 and offers a built-in sensor based shake reduction system... All sounds very nice, but a Nikonian stays a Nikonian, right :-) A D50 or D80 is not considered profi equipment, so I guess we will have to live with some shortcomings here and there... I just hope that your CCD will be OK for the rest of the trip. Did you really clean it yourself with alcohol etc.?
